Beyond the Reformer: Why I Teach the Art of the Spiral

The Pilates Foundation: Where My Journey Began
I’ll be honest: I started where most of us did. In 2002, I was a Pilates die-hard. I loved the linear precision, the core strength, and the undeniable results of the Reformer. For a decade, it was my world. But after years of moving in those two-dimensional planes, my body—and my teaching—started craving something more. I was looking for "the goodness"—that elusive feeling of space and fluidity that linear movement sometimes misses.
Discovering the Art of the Spiral
That’s when I found the GYROTONIC® Method. While Pilates focuses on specific muscle groups and controlled repetition, Gyrotonic opened me up to a three-dimensional world of circular and spiraling movements. It wasn’t just exercise; it was an expansion. I realized I didn't have to choose one over the other; instead, I could bridge the two to create a more holistic approach to wellness.
The Master Trainer Edge: Why Studios Seek My Guidance
People often ask me, "Cheryl, why do other studio owners bring you in to train their staff?" It’s because I speak both languages fluently. As a Pilates Teacher Trainer and a Specialized Gyrotonic Master Trainer, I understand the "Pilates Mum" looking for core strength and the "Reformer Athlete" seeking precision. I know how to translate the complex athletic transitions of the Jumping-Stretching Board into digestible, teachable moments.
Beyond Choreography: Training the Next Generation
When I lead a Level 1 Foundation Course or an Update Course, I’m not just teaching a syllabus. I’m helping instructors find that "massage from the inside out" for their own clients. Studios bring me in because they want their staff to move beyond "robotic" cueing and find their own teaching artistry. Whether we are in Westlake Hills or I’m visiting your team in Fort Worth, my mission is to help you find the potential for every movement to expand.u find the potential for every movement to expand. Let’s move past the linear and dive into the spiral together.
